Las Vegas, NV, September 21, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football," awarded Tysson Poots of Coronado High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the fourth week of the 2005 high school football season.
In Coronado's second win of the season, Poots led the Cougars to a 20-14 overtime victory over Green Valley High School on Friday, September 16. He caught three passes for 109 yards with one touchdown and also had two interceptions on defense. The second interception sealed the victory.
Poots also excels off the field as he holds a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The Gladiators fourth season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off in 2006. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Gladiators office at 702-731-4977 or logging onto www.lvgladiators.com.
