September 8, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Texas Tycoons News Release

Fort Worth, TX. Charles Key, owner of the ABA Fort Worth Tycoons professional basketball team today announced that the team name will be changed to the TEXAS TYCOONS. According to Mike Senters, VP of Operations, "As a league, the ABA continues to evolve. The Tycoon team is pleased to expand in unison with the ABA as we represent the entire great state of Texas on the court and in the front office. We thought the name should reflect the larger area."

In addition, the team announced the signing of Johnny Tyson, a 6'11"-250 lb center. Formerly with Central Oklahoma University, Tyson began his professional campaign after his Junior season in 1994 having been named First Team All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year. He has played professionally in the US, South America, Asia, Canada and Europe and has averaged over 18 points, 11 rebounds a game and an amazing 4.5 blocked shots a game - earning him the nickname, "Spiderman."

The Tycoons will hold its final free agent tryout camp on October 9th. For more information, call 817 4-TYCOON, or log onto www.ftworthtycoon.com or www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
