Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (4-0) enter this weekends Health Awareness Night Game as the lone remaining undefeated team in the PIFL. They have done it mostly on the backs of their league leading Defensive unit, however the Offense is sure to get a boost with the return of two standout wide receivers from the 2013 season. Troy Pascley (6'2", Louisville), who last year left the Steelhawks after just two games to attend mini-camp with the New York Giants, was activated to the roster for this weekend's game. In addition, the team's leading pass catcher from 2013, Torieal Gibson (5'9", Ball State), was signed and will be available for the Sunday afternoon contest.
Pascley, was an instant star for the Steelhawks to begin last season. In his first ever arena game he caught three passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns against the Knoxville Nighthawks and was instantly put on teams radars. After a stellar showing at a regional NFL combine in Dallas, he was asked to attend mini-camp workouts with the New York Giants. He came back for the team's playoff game against the Richmond Raiders and caught the opening pass for a 40 yards touchdown in the game. A rare combination of size and speed, Pascley should give Quarterback Adam Bednarik a big target for the rest of the 2014 season.
Gibson spent the beginning of this off-season in a couple AFL camps before re-signing this week with the team. A favorite target of Bednarik, Gibson looks to improve the Steelhawks passing attack that is averaging just 168 yards per game thru the air. In 2013 he became the first ever Steelhawks Wide Receiver to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in year accumulating 1,093 yards on 77 catches and 17 Touchdowns.
"Last year we had the top offense in the league while our defense struggled through injuries for most of the year," stated Head Coach Chris Thompson. "It seems almost reversed this year where our Defense is tops while our offense is still trying to find its rhythm. Getting back two proven pass catchers to this offense is huge for us as we make this run towards clinching a playoff berth. These two are so gifted athletically, but what is even better about them is between their helmets. They are two of the smartest players I have coached. We couldn't be more thrilled to add them back into this offense."
Both players look to suit up this weekend as the Steelhawks play the defending champion Alabama Hammers (0-4) on a special Mother's Day afternoon game this Sunday, May 11th (4:05 pm). The game will be "Pinked Out" for breast cancer; using pink game balls and there will be free pink rally towels given to the first 800 fans, presented by St. Luke's University Health Network. In addition, Ruby's Florist will be providing the first 500 women with a free flower for Mothers Day. There will also a Tricky Tray to benefit the teams mascot Talon's Man of the Year Campaign to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Don't forget that at each Steelhawks' home game, every time the Steelhawks score a touchdown, one lucky season ticket holder will be entered into the Boscov's Travel drawing to win a Free Vacation.
All Steelhawks home games are viewable on Service Electric, TV2 Sports. This weekend is the third of a four home game home stand for the Steelhawks. The next home game on Saturday, May 17th will be a Salute to Troops Night as well as a Race for Adam Night.
