Two second-year forwards join IceHogs

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced on Tuesday that the United Hockey League club has signed winger Mike Doyle and center Kevin Ulanski for the fast approaching 2006-07 season. Martinson made the announcement at a press conference at Medicine Man, Inc. Sticking to club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Doyle, an Anchorage, Alaska native, will begin his second season professionally with the IceHogs. Doyle spent his rookie campaign with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). With the Nailers, the 6-2, 197-pound winger collected 10g-17a-27pts in 72 games for Wheeling.

The Nailers reached the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs last season and Doyle appeared in nine postseason contests potting a goal. Prior to making the jump to the pro game, Doyle skated collegiately at St. Cloud State University (NCAA). During his four-year stint with the Huskies, Doyle potted 40 while helping with 49 assists in 139 games. While at St. Cloud State, Doyle was a teammate of IceHogs defenseman Matt Gens and former

"Both of these guys had excellent and consistent college careers," said Martinson. " We look for them to be big contributors for us this season.

"Ulanski is a strong set up player and I look for Doyle to be closer to his college high in goals which was 17. Doyle should be a 20-goal scorer this season and I expect Ulanski to record 60- plus points."

Ulanski also spent the '05-06 season in the ECHL. The center split his first professional season between the Long Beach Ice Dogs and Phoenix Roadrunners. In 66 contests, the Madison, Wisconsin native accumulated 8g-19a-27pts along with 32 PIM's.

Like Doyle, Ulanski attended a major Division I university. The 5-11 centerman spent four seasons with the University of Denver and was a part of the Pioneers back-to-back National Championship squads in 2003-04 and 2004-05. During his senior, Ulanski ranked sixth on the Pioneers in scoring, netting 11g20a-31pts.

With Doyle and Ulanski locked up, the IceHogs have 16 guys announcement for the fast approaching season. Others announced by the IceHogs include forwards Francis Belanger, Jesse Bennefield, Nicolas Corbeil, Erick Lizon, Preston Mizzi, Rob Voltera and Steve Yetman, defensemen Jared Bourassa, Dan Boeser, Matt Gens, Lee Jacobson, Mike Letizia and Tom Zabkowicz and goalie Brenden Cuthbert.

Tickets Going On Sale Monday: Individual game tickets go on sale Monday morning. Fans can call (815) 968-5222 beginning at 9 a.m. or can stop down to the Rockford MetroCentre Box Office starting at 10 a.m. to purchase tickets for the upcoming 2006-07 season. Opening Night is Friday Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets.
