Two Red Sox Tabbed Carolina League All-Stars
June 8, 2016 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Salem Red Sox News Release
SALEM, Va. - The Carolina League announced its 2016 All-Star Game roster today, and Yoan Moncada and Mauricio Dubon were chosen to represent the Salem Red Sox.
The 2016 California-Carolina League All-Star Game will be held on June 21, 2016 at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The game will be played at 9:30 pm eastern time.
Moncada is hitting .299 in 55 games with the Red Sox this season. He leads the Carolina League in doubles (21), walks (40), on-base percentage (.421) and stolen bases (34). He ranks among the league leaders in runs (2nd, 51), hits (3rd, 61), and batting average (6th).
Rated as the consensus top prospect in the Red Sox system and the number three (Baseball America) and seven (MLBPipeline.com) in all of baseball, the 21-year old is in his second professional season. He was voted a South Atlantic League Post-Season All-Star last year, but this is his first professional mid-season honor.
Dubon is hitting .301 for Salem in 52 games, with 23 RBIs, 10 doubles and 18 stolen bases. He has also played a dazzling shortstop. Dubon is fifth in the Carolina League in batting average, and has been the second-hardest player to strike out, whiffing once every 10.45 plate appearances. Originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, he has posted both an 11-game hitting streak and a 10-game hitting streak this season.
Dubon is rated as the number 12 (MLBPipeline.com) and 13 (Baseball America) prospect in the Red Sox system. This is his second consecutive year being named a mid-season All-Star after earning the honor in the South Atlantic League last year.
The Red Sox currently own the best record in the Carolina League at 38-21 and possess a magic number of six to clinch their first first-half division championship since 1988. Salem is back in action on Thursday evening for the opener of a four-game series at Wilmington. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm with pregame coverage on the Salem Red Sox Baseball Network beginning at 6:15.
