Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
(Wilkes-Barre) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have been assigned two more players from their 2007 American Conference Champion team, all-af2 first team member Zach Love and fan favorite David Dean.
"Having Zach and David back brings stability up front," said Head Coach Rich Ingold, "Their work last year was a big part of our success and their protection of Ryan Vena helped him to earn the Schutt Offensive Player of the Year."
The 6'5 320 pound Zach Love returns for his second season in arenafootball2 and with the Pioneers. The Buffalo University product Love played with a nasty streak all year while improving as the season went along and becoming a brick wall on the right side of the line as he learned the intricacies of the arena game. The all-af2 first team offensive lineman will be covering the blind side of new left-handed quarterback Rod Rutherford.
A fan favorite, the 6'6 335 pound David Dean is also back for his second year with the Pioneers. This will be Dean's fourth season in the af2. He played for the Albany Conquest during both the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
An invaluable member of the team, Dean can play both offensive and defensive line equally well. Dean started the year on the offensive line and then the high energy player switched to defense mid way through the year before being forced back to the offensive side for the playoff run to Arenacup8. He was entrusted with protecting the blind side of quarterback Ryan Vena, as Vena set the single game record for the most touchdown passes in the Arenacup. Dean also contributed on special teams as the long snapper for Havoc Kicker of the Year David Davis and also recorded a blocked kick.
"In football everything starts up front. Arena football is all about passing," stated owner Cosmo DeNicola, "With Zach and David our quarterback and passing game will have one third of a ton of protection."
The Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Pioneers will be kicking off their seventh season in the arenafootball2 league with the start of the 2008 season. Season tickets for the Pioneers 2008 season are now on sale! For more information call (570) 970-4232 or visit the Pioneers Web site at www.wbspioneers.com.
