Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have announced the signings of two new players to the 2002-03 roster. Defenseman Chris Chelios and rookie forward Jeff Glowa have agreed to terms with the team. Chelios is a cousin of the Detroit Red Wings' all-star defenseman of the same name.

Both players enjoyed outstanding careers with the University of Wisconsin-Superior and were teammates with the Yellowjackets from 1997 to 1999.

Like his famous relative, Chelios hails from Chicago, Illinois. He last played with the Baton Rouge Kingfish of the East Coast Hockey League and registered 25 points (5 goals, 20 assists) and 91 penalty minutes during the 2001 season. During his collegiate career (1995-1999), the 5'9 195-pound defenseman recorded 113 points in 120 career games. He was named a captain of the University of Wisconsin-Superior team for each of his final three seasons and was a first team All-American during the 1999 campaign. Chelios is the first defenseman of the nine Mudbugs' 2002-03 signees.

"Chris is very excited to be coming to the Mudbugs and we're thrilled to have him here," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Muscutt. "He's a good rugged defenseman and has plenty of talent to add to our blue line. Our fans will really enjoy the way he plays the game."

Jeff Glowa also received many accolades during his collegiate career with the University of Wisconsin-Superior. From 1997-2001, the Calgary, Alberta native recorded 49 goals and 93 assists for 142 points in 125 games. Glowa was also named first team All-American in 2001. He graduated as one of the most consistent performers in Yellowjacket hockey history.

"Jeff is a complete player that can star in a number of different roles for us this year," said Muscutt. "He's a hard-nosed center that can play both ends of the rink as well as the power play and penalty kill. He's got the determination to be a very important player for us and we're excited to add his skills to our team."

The signings of Chelios and Glowa now bring the Mudbugs' 2002-03 roster total to nine players. Forwards Forbes MacPherson, Trevor Buchanan, Chris Brassard, Dan Wildfong, Jason Campbell, Willie Hubloo, and goaltender Ken Carroll have also signed with the Mudbugs for the upcoming season.

Season tickets for the 2002-03 Mudbugs season are currently on sale, as well as tickets for the NHL exhibition game between the Nashville Predators and the Atlanta Thrashers on September 28th at the CenturyTel Center. For more information, please call 318-752-BUGS.
