INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has signed forward Justin Kearns to a contract.

Kearns, who can play at center and on the wing, returns to Indianapolis after playing parts of last season with the club. He skated in 22 games with the Icemen and posted six points (1G, 5A) and 12 penalty minutes.

After playing the middle of the year in Indy, Kearns went to the East Coast Hockey League and played a combined 32 games with Trenton and Columbus. He closed out the year on an impressive note with Columbus as he averaged just under a point a game with 21 points (7G, 14A) in 25 games of work.

"I think Justin deserved a second chance here in Indianapolis after finishing last year strong in Columbus," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "With the right line, Justin has the potential to be a good all-around player for us."

The 26-year-old forward has spent three of his four years professionally in the United Hockey League. His best pro year came during the 2000-01 season with Rockford, where he was third on the team in scoring with 47 points, while finishing first on the team in goals (27) and game-winning goals (4).

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kearns has also seen time in the AHL and the IHL and has produced 152 points (75G, 77A) and 259 penalty minutes in his 259-game career. Before turning pro, he played collegiate hockey at Northeastern University (Hockey East- Division I).
