Kelowna Falcons News Release
Kelowna: Two former members of the Kelowna Falcons have been selected in the Top 10 rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft.
Pitcher Tyler Wagner (2010) from the University of Utah was chosen in the fourth round, 155th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2010 Wagner came to the Falcons as a freshman that had started to dabble in pitching. Two short years later Wagner is selected by the Brewers as a pitcher.
While with the Falcons Wagner became a force out of the pen. He would finish the season 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 19 appearances. "Wags" would throw 32 innings for the Falcons striking out 35 batters while giving up just 16 earned runs. The opposition hit just .207 against him. He would go back to Utah in the fall and won the closer role for the Utes, which ultimately got him drafted.
Three rounds after Wagner was selected, left hander David Otterman (2011) was also chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers. Otterman just completed his junior year at UBC where he was named to the NAIA All Star team.
Last season with the Falcons Otterman finished 3-5 with a 3.22 ERA in 14 appearances. He would throw 67 innings, start 11 games and strikeout 46 hitters. The opposition hit just .240 against "Otter" who also had a WHIP of 1.51.
The Kelowna Falcons would like to congratulate both Tyler Wagner and David Otterman and wish them the best of luck as they begin their professional careers.
The Falcons begin their 2012 season tonight in Cowlitz, before their FREE home opener on Sunday night at Elks Stadium. First pitch is at 6:05pm against the Kitsap Bluejackets.
