
Two Icehawks Win IHL Monthly Honors

PORT HURON, MI - Two members of the Port Huron Icehawks received monthly honors from the International Hockey League for December, the IHL announced today.
Left wing Mickael Bedard was named Rookie of the Month and Larry Sterling received Goaltender of the Month honors. Both players were an integral part of a successful December in which the Icehawks went 10-2-0-0.
Bedard was on a tear in December and finished the month with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists in just 12 games. His plus-13 rating for the month was the best of any IHL player in December. He had six multi-point games and recorded his first hat trick of the season on December 27 versus Dayton.
The 22-year old native of Montreal, Quebec leads all IHL rookies in points (36), goals (18), assists (18), power play goals (6), power play assists (6), shooting percentage (20.2%), plus/minus (plus-14) and game winning goals (3). His 36 points also leads the Icehawks in scoring.
Sterling also had an outstanding December, winning his last six games in a row for a 6-1-0-0 record. He stopped a total of 197 shots, giving him a .938 save percentage. He never let in more than three goals in all seven starts and finished the month with just 13 goals against for a 1.86 goals against average. He allowed just two power play goals against him, stopping 29 of 31 man advantage opportunities from his opponents.
The 27-year old Lake Orion, Michigan native currently leads all IHL goaltenders in goals against average at 2.19 and is ranked second in wins (12) and save percentage (.926).
The honor is the fourth this season for Bedard and the third for Sterling. Bedard was named Rookie of the Week in Week Five and Player of the Week in weeks Ten and Eleven. Sterling was Goaltender of the Week in Week Nine and Goalie of the Month in October.
The Icehawks wrap up a five game road trip this week with two games in Quad City and two in Bloomington. The stint begins with a game at Bloomington on Wednesday.
