Meijer IHL Monthly Honors For December Announced

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Quad City right wing Patrick Levesque has been named the Meijer IHL Player of the Month, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of December.

Levesque becomes the first Mallard to earn a monthly honor this season. He finished the month of December notching in 13 goals and dishing out eight assists for 21 points in 15 games played. He recorded seven multi-point games during the month, with four multi-goal games. He also had two three-point nights, one against Muskegon and the other versus Flint. Levesque had a hand in 21 of the Mallards 42 goals scored during the month, either scoring or assisting on those tallies. The 25- year-old Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native is currently tied for fourth in the IHL in scoring with 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists). His 17 goals also rank third among IHL scorers.

Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington defenseman Jason Lepine, Dayton forward Sam Bloom, Flint right wing John Ronan, Fort Wayne right wing David Hukalo, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Port Huron forward Brandon Naurato.

Bedard recorded the best month of his rookie season in December, scoring nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 12 games played by the Icehawks. He had a plus-13 rating for the month, which was the best plus/minus of any other player in the IHL in the month of December. Bedard had six multi-point games and recorded his first hat trick of the season on December 27th against Dayton.

The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native currently leads all IHL rookies in points (36), goals (18), assists (18), power play goals (6), power play assists (6), shooting percentage (20.2%), plus/minus (plus-14) and game-winning goals (3). His 36 points leads the Icehawks in scoring as well.

Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington center Matt McIlvane, Dayton left wing Corey Couturier, Flint right wing John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Muskegon right wing J.T. Dahlinger and Quad City center Justin White.

Sterling had his best month of the season so far, posting a stellar 6-1-0-0 record in December. He stopped a total of 197 shots, giving him a.938 save percentage. After dropping the first game of the month 0-3 to Muskegon, Sterling won six straight contests to wrap up the month, giving up only 13 goals against for a 1.86 goals against average. He never let in more than three goals in all seven starts in December. Sterling allowed just two power play goals against him, stopping 29 of 31 man advantage opportunities from the opposition. The 27-year-old Lake Orion, Michigan native currently all IHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.19) and is tied for second in wins (12) and save percentage (.926).

Other goaltenders nominated for the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Dayton's Ryan Mior, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Tim Haun, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
