Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash - The Walla Walla Sweets released the signing of another pair of players on Thursday. This week, the Sweets signed Ryan Anderson and Cole Henderson from the University of Nevada Reno.
Ryan Anderson, a 6-foot 6-inch, 180 pound left-handed pitcher, will come to the Sweets from Sparks, NV. His junior year at Spanish Springs High School, he had a 2.20 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 43 innings and led his team to a High Desert League championship. He was ranked as the number two left-handed pitching prospect in Nevada according to Perfect Game.
"Ryan will be counted on this summer to neutralize some of the top left handed hitters in the WCL. I'm not quite sure what role he will pitch in, but I do know he should see significant time on the mound" said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "He is a player who will develop right before our own eyes, and he reminds me of former Angels LHP Chuck Finley. Ryan is projected to be a high draft pick in a couple of years, has a clean delivery and sits 86-88 MPH with a very good change up."
Cole Henderson, a 6-foot 3-inch, 180 pound right-handed pitcher and third baseman. Set to graduate from Valhalla High School this spring, he hit .370 with three home runs and 16 RBIs as a junior. On the mound, he had a 3-2 record with a 2.68 ERA. He helped Valhalla to a runner-up finish in the 2014 CIF San Diego Section D1 Championship.
"Cole Henderson is a tremendous competitor and will pitch in both staring and relief rolls. Another high 80's low 90's guy who has command of three pitches and has played at an extremely high level of competition throughout his high school career" added Mutz. "I'm looking forward to having Cole on the roster this summer. Like several of our young pitchers last summer, Henderson will be very dependable."
The Walla Walla Sweets will open the 2016 season presented by Columbia REA, on June 3 against the Victoria HarbourCats. Season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now.
