Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League are pleased to announce that forwards Matt Jones and Tyler Spezia were selected in Tuesday's United States Hockey League Draft. The USHL is the only Tier 1 junior hockey league in the United States.
Jones, a forward born in 1996, was selected 13th round of the USHL Draft by the Sioux City Musketeers, 184th overall. The 5'9" right-winger was signed to a tender agreement by the Fighting Falcons in February, as he played with the Arizona Bobcats U16 team.
Spezia, a forward born in 1993, was chosen in the 14th round by the Youngstown Phantoms, the 204th overall selection. Spezia excelled in 14 games with the Fighting Falcons to end the 2012-13 season, scoring 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. The Clinton Township, MI native tallied four goals and two assists in 23 games with the USHL's Dubuque Fighting Saints last season before joining the Fighting Falcons.
The drafted players are not guaranteed a spot on a USHL roster for next season, but their rights are held by the team that selected them. The Fighting Falcons continue to hold the NAHL rights to each player for next season.
Nolan Valleau, who played for the Fighting Falcons during the 2011-12 season was selected in the third round of last year's USHL Draft, and played the entire 2012-13 season at the Tier 1 level with the Des Moines Buccaneers and the Chicago Steel.
