June 24, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release
(June 24, 2008) - New York Dragons rookies Levy Brown and Farouk Adelekan were named to the AFL All-Rookie Team on Tuesday along with 15 other honorees around the league.
Brown came to the Dragons in the offseason from the af2, where he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2007. This season, the rookie DB led all rookies in tackles (95.5) and passes defended (13), and he also had six interceptions as he patrolled the secondary of one of the top-ranked defenses in the league.
Adelekan also came to the Dragons from the af2, where he had a stellar season with the Tennessee Valley Vipers in 2007. This season, Adelekan recorded 30.0 total tackles, four sacks, nine QBH, one pass defended, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries on the Dragons defensive line.
The blend of impressive rookies and seasoned veterans has helped the Dragons defense become one of the most dangerous in the league. The defense finished the regular season ranked first in total yards per game (270.1) and pass yards per game (249.8), and is in the top five of almost every other defensive category.
"It's good to see the league recognize the contributions and the talent of these two guys," said head coach Weylan Harding. "They have been major contributors to our success thus far both with their attitudes and their production, and we look forward to bigger and better things for them going forward."
The Dragons will travel to Dallas to take on the Desperados this Friday, June 27th at 7:30pm ET in the first round of the 2008 playoffs.
