Philadelphia Soul News Release

HUGHES NAMED ALL-ROOKIE KICKER

Soul kicker Connor Hughes was the lone representative on the AFL All-Rookie Team, it was announced on Tuesday. Hughes, a University of Virginia product, connected on a team-record 123-of-136 PATs and his 138 total points was fifth best among kickers.

MOTEN NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Moten (5-10, 185, Texas A&M - Kingsville) registered two tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble as the Philadelphia Soul (13-3) defeated the New York Dragons (8-8), 59-30, on Sunday. On New York's first possession of the game, Moten stripped WR/DB JASON WILLIS, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Soul LB ROD DAVIS in the end zone for a touchback. During the Dragons second possession of the second quarter Moten intercepted a pass by New York QB JUSTON WOOD on the Soul 10-yard line and returned it 25 yards to the Dragons 15-yard line. On a second-and-goal play in the third quarter, Moten intercepted Wood in the end zone and returned it 52 yards for the Soul's second defensive touchdown of the game. Moten forced three of New York's five turnovers as Philadelphia held New York to a season-low 30 points. The Soul will host a Divisional Round matchup on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Saturday July 5 at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN, SIRIUS Radio - Channel 127)

SOUL PATCHES

In true playoff tradition, the Soul are encouraging all fans to grow "Soul Patches" for the 2008 playoff run. Fans who grow, attempt to grow or show up with a "Soul Patch", which is a small patch of facial hair just below the lower lip and above the chin, can receive a special Soul ticket "Patch-age," which is a lower-level seat with other sporters of Soul Patches for just $20 -- a $13 savings from the regular price. "Soul Patch-ages" are currently on sale by calling the Soul ticket office at 888-PHIL-AFL.

WHAT'S UP TODAY...

Soul players continue to be off until getting back to the practice field on Thursday. After an enjoyable bus trip back to Philadelphia from New York on Sunday, some players have gone home, while others are still in the area. Starting center Mike Mabry went to Pittsburgh to visit family and friends, while his fellow offensive lineman Phil Bogle opted to stay in the area. The coaches are hard at work preparing for whoever their opponent will be and the front office is also in fifth gear despite this being a bye week. The club has been fielding phone calls for ticket orders and feverishly working to publicize the July 5 game.

HE SAID IT...

Soul WR Chris Jackson after Sunday's win: "We trust in one another. It's just a good team chemistry and camaraderie on this team. I'm just excited to play for [the Soul]. We set the bar high and we're going to keep rolling until we get that done (win the ArenaBowl).

AROUND THE LEAGUE
