
Two Beat Stars Called up for U.S. Women's National Team

ATLANTA (April 10, 2003) - Atlanta Beat goalkeeper Briana Scurry and forward Cindy Parlow were today called up to the U.S. Women's National Team for a 2003 Women's World Cup warm-up match versus Nigeria in Washington D.C. on April 26, 2003 at Noon ET, with the match airing live on ESPN.
Twenty-four players were called in for training with the U.S. Women and Head Coach April Heinrichs will select 18 players for the match versus the African Champions.
Scurry and Parlow last competed with the U.S. Women at the 2003 Algarve Cup in Portugal, helping the U.S. capture the Algarve Cup title. Scurry has appeared in 116 matches for the U.S. Women and recorded her 60th shutout on March 20, 2003, versus China in the Algarve Cup final. Parlow has recorded 122 appearances and 57 goals to date and ranks 5th in all-time goals scored (57), 9th in assists (22) and 7th in points (136), for the U.S. Women.
Following the U.S. vs. Nigeria match on April 26, the Atlanta Beat will face the Washington Freedom at 2:30 p.m. Washington has three players on the 24-player roster - forward Mia Hamm, forward Abby Wambach and goalkeeper Siri Mullinix.
The Beat opened its 2003 season on Saturday, April 5 at Herndon Stadium in Atlanta with a 5-0 win over the New York Power. The Beat faces the Boston Breakers at home this Saturday, April 12 at 4 p.m. The match will air live nationally on PAX-TV.
