Two ABA Powerhouses Face Off in Great Game

January 15, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, AR. The Arkansas RimRockers tipped off 2005 with a win over arch-rival Nashville Rhythm in a closely fought battle 117-111. Both teams played well, one team came out on top. The Rhythm, coached by one of the league's two women coaches, Ashley McIlleney, thought they had the measure of the RimRockers but trailed at halftime 60-53.

Shawnson Johnson led the RimRockers with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Brandon Dean added 25 points and an impressive array of slam dunks and alley-oops. Kareem Reid, who played all but nine minutes of the game, finished with 20 points, 6 assists and a steal. Reid was the unofficial leader on the court, pulling the team together when the Rhythm took a 10 point lead late in the third quarter of the exciting game. However, the RimRockers responded by scoring 40 points in the 4th quarter.

The RimRockers converted 66 points in the paint over the Rhythm's 46 and made 29 fast-break points which frequently resulted in a Brandon Dean slam-dunk. Shawnson Johnson and newcomer Jamaal Davis were solid under the basket and held the Rhythm to 22 fast-break points. The RimRockers bench played well and maintained the momentum that the starters created coming into the game at key times and adding 46 points to the final total. Overall, a well-played, exciting ABA game - the fans enjoyed every minute - and the two teams will meet again.
