Twins Defeat Cane Cutters to Win Fourth Straight

June 9, 2018 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Texarkana Twins News Release

Texarkana, USA - The Texarkana Twins continued their success and pushed their win streak to four games, following a series opening victory over the Acadiana Cane Cutters 9-6. Fans at George Dobson Field were treated to fireworks during and after the game, as the Twins offense again was the main story of tonight's game.

The Twins struggled early on, with the Cane Cutters scoring a run in the top half of the first inning. The Twins would answer back after a leadoff triple from shortstop Gunner Halter, who would score on a RBI single from Tanner Sparks. Starting pitcher Jesse Philp would struggle to start the inning, allowing two runs after walking the bases loaded with no outs. The Twins and Cane Cutters would exchange runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings respectively. In the 4th inning, the Twins would break out for a rally that would give them the lead. Hunter Southerland singled in two runs with two outs followed by a third run in the inning scoring on a defensive miscue from the Cane Cutters.

The Twins would again put pressure on the Cane Cutters defense in the 5th inning, as they forced two errors in the inning that would allow for runners from second to score without the ball leaving the infield. Gunner Halter and Ross Messina would be the two Twins who placed the most pressure with their speed, causing throwing errors when each of them attempted to steal third base. While the Cane Cutters would add two runs in the top of the 6th inning to cut the lead to 8-6, that would be the closest they would get as the Twins added an insurance run in the 7th inning to complete the scoring. Twins relief pitcher Colby Adkins would come in the 9th and prevent any type of comeback from the Cane Cutters by striking out the side and giving the Twins a victory.

The Twins will finish the homestand tomorrow as they complete the series against the Acadiana Cane Cutters, followed by a road trip to Bryan, where the Twins will take on their rival, the Brazos Valley Bombers.
