Nashua, NH - July 28, 2002 -Nashua Pride (1-16 second half) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (7-9 second half) 8-0 before 1,063 fans at The Pridelands tonight. The Pride ended a 21-game losing streak dating back to July 3rd tonight.
FRANCISCO LEBRON of the Pride opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when he hit a two-out solo homer to put the Pride up 1-0. CHAD FONVILLE started a rally for the Pride in the bottom of the sixth inning by hitting a double and PAT HOWELL followed with a single that advanced Fonville to third. MIGUEL CORREA would drive home Fonville with an RBI single, to increase the Pride's lead 2-0.
In the same inning JOSE MALAVE (2 for 4, 1 RBI) hit a single to load the bases for GLENN MURRAY (2 for 3, Grand Slam). Murray bashed a grand slam home run to left center on a 1-2 count to give the Pride a 6-0 lead.
The Pride's JOSH GLASSEY opened up the bottom of the seventh inning by smacking a double down the right field line. Howell would follow with a double of his own to score Glassey and then Malave would drive home Howell with an RBI single, which gave the Pride a commanding 8-0 lead.
Travis Baptist (5-7) pitched seven shutout innings allowing just three hits and one walk to go with three strikeouts. ALAN MAHAFFEY (10-5) threw for five innings allowing eight hits and six earned runs to suffer the loss.
The Pride will play the third game of a three game-series against the Bluefish tomorrow night at The Pridelands beginning at 6:35. The Pennsylvania Road Warriors will be coming into town on Tuesday July 30th, to open up a three-game home stand against the Pride.
