Turner South to Air Five Georgia Force Arena Football League Games

April 8, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Georgia Force News Release

Turner South has partnered with the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League (AFL) for 2002 and will televise five regular season Force games from April 20 - July 20, live and exclusive in the network's Southeast broadcast territory. The announcement was made today by Turner South General Manager David Rudolph.

The AFL games will complement Turner South's current coverage of Atlanta's other sports teams - the Braves, Hawks and Thrashers - and gives the network a lineup that includes all four professional sports. Turner Sports, Inc., will produce the games, and an announcer line-up will be released at a later date.

"Adding the Georgia Force games to the network's line-up is a logical tactic in Turner South's programming strategy," said Rudolph. "Given the strength of Atlanta's athletic market and its affinity for home team players, we are confident that viewers will value the opportunity to see the Force compete in the team's first year of play."

The 2002 season marks the 16th year of the Arena Football League and the first year of play for the Georgia Force. Leading the Force into play during their inaugural season will be Head Coach Robert Lyles. Lyles brings with him five years of AFL coaching knowledge and nine years of playing experience as a linebacker for the NFL's Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons. Adding to the roster, the Force signed former NFL and University of Georgia quarterback Eric Zeier.
