
Turk Schonert Named Head Coach of Sacramento Mountain Lions

SACRAMENTO, CA. - The United Football League's Sacramento Mountain Lions named Turk Schonert as head coach for the upcoming 2012 season.
Schonert, 55, played quarterback at Stanford University and with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons of the National Football from 1981-89. He served as an assistant coach in the NFL from 1992-2008, and with the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives last year.
Schonert won't only be the head coach. He'll also serve as general manager, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach.
The Mountain Lions open their season on the road against the Locos on Wednesday, Sept. 19. They will play their home opener at Raley Field on Friday, Sept. 28.
The UFL, entering its fourth season, will play an eight-game schedule this season, with the championship game set for Nov. 16.
