Tulsa Talons News Release

TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa Talons Head Coach David Alexander and Offensive Coach/Player Personnel Mitch Allner left early this morning for Tokyo, Japan for a historical event. They will be attending the AFL (Arena Football League) Combine/All-Japan Samurai Warriors tryout in Kawasaki, Kanagawa at the Fujitsu Frontiers practice field taking place this weekend, January 22-23. This is the first ever AFL event in Japan, which consists of approximately 100 players. Participants are from all levels of play by invitation and registration.

This event provides US coaches the opportunity to coach Japanese players and draft prospects to show their talent. Coach Alexander and Allner will be joining af2 head coaches Danton Barto (Memphis), Mike Hold (Macon), Chris Siegfried (South Georgia), AFL International Development Coordinator Atsushi Suzuki and Vice President of International Development Jerry Kurz. Each coach is responsible for observing and making an evaluation report on a respective position, which is gathered for pre-draft distribution to af2 teams. Coach Alexander will be evaluating the OL/DL position and Coach Allner will be evaluating the WR/DB position.

The af2 Tulsa Talons feel honored to be a part of this event. What better place to look for global talent than Japan. The 2005 international draft will consist of players from Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and France. The advantage of having an international player gives af2 teams the ability to dress 20 players, as long as the 20th player is an international player. In 2004, the Talons international player was Mathew McKinnon from Scotland.
