Tulsa Oilers Sign Mike Johnson

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League have signed Defenseman Mike Johnson to their 2002-2003 roster, General Manager Corey MacIntyre announced today at a press conference held at the Oilers front office.

"We're extremely excited about acquiring a player of Mike's caliber," said MacIntyre. "With his experience, we will be relying on him heavily to be our defensive leader this year."

Johnson, originally a sixth round pick of the Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League in 1992, has played in a number of leagues throughout his career, including the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League, and the Western Professional Hockey League. He has also played in Europe and has played 90 games with the Canadian National Team. Johnson's top year came during the 1999-2000 season, when he played in 61 games for the New Mexico Scorpions of the WPHL, totaling 36 points on five goals and 31 assists. He also racked up 104 penalty minutes that season for the Scorpions.

For his professional career, Johnson (6-3, 234 pounds) has played in 227 games, totaling 75 points on 17 goals and 58 assists. He also played in 90 games for the Canadian National Team, recording 36 points on 12 goals and 24 assists.
