Tulsa Enjoys Thunderous Victory over Maine

January 8, 2013 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

RENO, NEV., Jan. 8 2013 - U.S. Route 66 was one of the original highways in the country that ran from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California. The famous highway was also known as the "Main Street of America." It is the origin of the team name - Tulsa 66ers. Interestingly enough, the Tulsa 66ers appear to be the main route to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

At the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase, the Tulsa 66ers featuring Daniel Orton, Jeremy Lamb and Perry Jones, three assignment players from the big club down the road, defeated the Maine Red Claws 105-93. The three assignment players accounted for 54 of the Tulsa points and gave the 66ers a steady lead throughout, as they never trailed in the contest.

The Thunder lost in the NBA Finals to the Miami Heat last season and when this season is all said and done it could be one of the prospects we saw at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase here in January that finds himself on the floor in June helping the Thunder win the championship that they seek so greatly.

Orton paced Tulsa with 25 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor, to go along with five steals and three blocked shots. He lost out to DeAndre Liggins for the final roster spot with the Thunder before the season but was re-signed following the James Harden trade.

Lamb, acquired from the Houston Rockets in the James Harden trade, tallied 18 points and seven assists. He originally made a name for himself as a member of the University of Connecticut Huskies team that won the National Championship in 2011.

Jones was selected with the Thunder's first-round pick, 28th overall, in the 2012 NBA Draft. He went on to score 11 points and grab eight rebounds for the 66ers.

Hollis Thompson is not an assignment player but he was in training camp with Oklahoma City during the preseason and came to play with a purpose here in Reno. Thompson put together a complete game, earning a double-double with 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He was also a presence in the paint, collecting 14 rebounds.

For the Red Claws, DaJuan Summers had a game-high 31 points as he looks to return to the NBA after spending some time the last two seasons with the Detroit Pistons and the New Orleans Hornets. Xavier Silas added 24 points for Maine.

Maine will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take the court at 3:30 P.M. PST. against the Bakersfield Jam. Tulsa will enjoy Wednesday off before returning to action on Thursday to take on Fort Wayne at 10 A.M. PST.
