New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ-New Jersey Jackals' skipper George Tsamis today was selected as the Northern League East Manager of the Year. The voting is done by each manager and one media member representing each team in the NL East.
With six games remaining in the regular season, Tsamis has guided New Jersey to a league-best mark of 58-26. Should the Jackals win their final six games of the season the team would equal the Northern League record for most victories in one season. The current record of 64 wins was set in 1998 by the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks. Already the Jackals have established franchise records for most wins in a season, most home wins in a season (33) and most road wins in a season (25).
"George has exceeded even our highest expectations for this season," said Jackals' general manager Larry Hall. "He has put together a tremendous team, a tremendous group of men, and has guided them to a fantastic season, so far."
The 35 year-old Tsamis, a former major league pitcher with the Minnesota Twins, is in his second season as manager of the Jackals and his fourth season as a minor league skipper. He guided the Jackals to the 2001 Northern League championship and has a two-year record of 103 wins and 71 losses to date.
"This is a great honor," said Tsamis. "My players deserve all of the credit, though, because they are the ones who have had such a great season." He added, "I owe Jackals' management so much because they are the ones who gave me this tremendous opportunity to manage for the best organization in the league. I really would not want to manage anywhere else."
