New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals broke their four-game losing streak with a 15-0 win over the Berkshire Black Bears Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. With the victory the Jackals lowered their magic number for clinching the second-half south division title to two, with Elmira playing at Allentown this evening. New Jersey is 59-26 on the season, five wins away from tying the Northern League record for wins. They have five games left to play.
Right-hander Aaron Myers (11-5) was nearly perfect on the mound for New Jersey in picking up his 11th win of the season. Myers tossed 7 plus innings of scoreless, two-hit ball. He struck out 8 batters and did not walk anyone. Myers retired the first 8 batters of the game, allowed a two-out single in the 3rd inning and then retired the next 13 batters in a row before allowing another base hit.
The Jackals offense totaled nine base hits, but still managed to score 15 runs as New Jersey took advantage of 11 walks issued by four Berkshire pitchers. New Jersey hit four home runs on the night---solo shots from Chas Terni (his 10th) in the first inning, Mikaela Dworken (his 11th) in the second inning and Billy Rich (his 7th) in the sixth inning and a grand slam home run from Craig Conway (his 2nd) in the seventh inning.
Dworken finished the night 2-3 with 2 walks and 3 RBI and Rich was 1-2 with a walk, 2 sacrifice flies and 3 RBI.
