Detroit Fury News Release

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - In announcement made by the Arena Football League (AFL), R-Kal Truluck of the Detroit Fury was selected as Lineman of the Year. Truluck was unable to accept the award in person as he was signed last week by the National Football League's (NFL) Kansas City Chiefs and is currently in training camp.

Truluck completed the 2002 season for the Fury, playing in all 14 games and leading not only the team, but also the league in sacks with 8.0. Truluck led the team in fumble recoveries with six for 49 yards and in QB hurries with seven. He also ranked fourth on the squad in tackles with 33 (29UT-8AT). Truluck was one of just three players on the Fury to play all 14 games in 2002.

This is Truluck's second award, as last season he was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Year and nominated to First Team All-Arena. Truluck recorded 8.5 sacks last season, second by half a tackle to New York's Robert Stewart.

"R-Kal has proven to be a top performer in the Arena Football League, dating back to last season when he won Rookie of the Year," said General Manager Greg Myford. "And now winning Lineman of the Year and being named to his second consecutive First Team All-Arena, there is no question that R-Kal is certainly one of the AFL's elite performers."

Truluck joins Chuck Winters as the two award winners representing Detroit. Winters was chosen as the Hero Award recipient, an award given to a player who demonstrates his tireless commitment to helping the community.

The 2003 AFL season kicks off in February. For more information please contact the Fury's front office at (248) 377-0100 or log onto www.detroitfury.com.
