Troy Bruins Take Down Loggers 8-1

November 19, 2010 - All American Hockey League (AAHL)
Troy Bruins News Release

Lapeer, Michigan - The Troy Bruins would extend their winning streak to three with a dominating 8-2 win inside the Polar Palace led by an amazing four goal performance by Troy's Josh Swenson.

The Bruins would pick up right where they left off last weekend, taking control of the game and it's flow from the opening faceoff. Coming out firing on all cylinders, it would only take 1:23 of play for Troy's Josh Swenson to send a centering pass into the slot for Michael Jordan to snipe past Loggers starting net minder Dave DeSander to break the scoring seal. DeSander would cut the Bruins a break less than two minutes later, as he mishandled an otherwise unordinary shot, which trickled behind him and into the net before he could know it, this time credited as the second goal of the season for Bill Knauber at the 3:15 mark to take a quick two goal lead and silence the full house in Lapeer. Play began to heat up as the period neared the midway point, with the Bruins being called for a handful of minor penalties, and getting an opportunity to showcase their special teams play with a nifty shorthanded goal at 9:06, again with Jordan lighting the lamp for his second goal of the game. On the other end of the ice, the Loggers would put a full workload in front of Bruins goalie Rob Mattison, but would be unable to find the back of the net before the bruins would add a forth goal for good measure with less than two minutes to go with Willie Boyle cashing in on yet another perfectly executed centering pass from Kevin Lee and Jim Rettig to head into the first intermission ahead 4-0.

Play would continue to be controlled by the Bruins in the second, albeit with more aggression from the hometown Loggers. The middle period would ultimately be owned by Troy's Josh Swenson, who picked up a pair of goals just minutes apart (9:35, 13:59) to cruise the Bruins to an overpowering 6-0 lead, before a slapshot from Loggers star forward Brett Sullivan would end the shutout with a power play goal, beating Mattison above his glove shoulder at the 18:39 mark. Despite the goal, the Loggers would never be able to change the Bruins momentum, as Troy would skate into the second intermission leading 6-1 and out shooting Lapeer 11-7 in the period.

The third period would become in essence a repeat of the second, again led by a two goal performance by Josh Swenson. Both on the US Army Powerplay, Swenson would earn his "hat trick" at the 9:35 mark, off an assist by Dan Morini before finding the back of the net for a season best forth time at 9:08 this time unassisted to make it an 8-1 game before Lapeer would muster one more goal with a little over a minute left to secure the lopsided 8-1 Bruins victory, their third in a row. Final shots on goal would actually end up tied 32-32, while Troy's Mattison was named the game's third star, Jordan the second and for his incredible four goal night, Swenson would earn the first star of the game selected by the Flint media.

With the win, the Bruins improve their record to 5-2-2, and now return home to host the Battle Creek Revolution for the first time inside the historic Hobart Arena on Saturday night at 8pm. With the Lapeer loss, only Troy and Battle Creek remain tied for first place in the AAHL Standings, making Saturday night's contest even more meaningful for each club.

Tickets for Saturday night's game are just $8 and can be purchased in advance by visiting www.TroyBruins.com or at the Hobart Arena box office on game night.
