Troy Bruins Open AAHL Pro Tryout Camp This Weekend Inside Hobart Arena
September 17, 2010 - All American Hockey League (AAHL)
Troy Bruins News Release
Troy, OH - The Troy Bruins, proud members of the single-A professional All American Hockey League, are excited to open the club's first AAHL Pro Tryout Camp tonight inside the historic Hobart Arena in downtown Troy.
Players from across North American will descend on Troy for their shot to impress Bruins head coach & general manager Rick Szabo, and earn their spot for the upcoming season. Of the players battling on the ice, are a number of returning Bruins players who were a part of the 2009-2010 inaugural season squad including captain Lee McClure, Justin Dornhecker, Tyler Merritt and "the gunslinger" Sean Hagerty.
Yet, former Bruins will not be the only local connection to the camp, as a number of Troy and Miami County natives will be suiting up for their opportunity to play professional hockey in their hometown. Former NAHL Dayton Gem and Troy Youth Hockey alumnus Derek Nova looks to lead a cast of local players who include several Troy High School Varsity Hockey Alums. Additionally, collage football fans will notice a familiar face on the ice, as THS and South Carolina standout lineman Kris Mick will make his bid to become the first person to play two different professional sports in the the same city and same venue. Mick played one season for the Miami Valley Silverbacks at Hobart Arena back in 2007.
Fans are invited to get a "sneak peek" into the 2010-2011 Troy Bruins, and admission to the camp scrimmages are free. Bruins staff will be on hand throughout the weekend to answer questions and to assist fans with ticket sales and locations.
