Troy Bruins News Release
Battle Creek, Michigan - The Battle Creek Revolution extended their winning streak against the Troy Bruins to two with a hard fought 7-2 victory Friday night inside the Revolution Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan. Scoring the first Troy goal would be Chris Moore from Beavercreek, Ohio native Lee McClure, before McClure found the back of the net off a Moore pass for the second and final tally in the road loss.
Picking up right where they left off one week prior, the Battle Creek Revolution came out flying right off the opening draw. Testing Bruins starting netminder Micah Robbins early and often, a turnover by Troy created the game's first goal only 5:33 into the first period by Battle Creek's Justin Barr. Trying to shake off the jitters from his first game in net this season, Robbins would once again see the red lamp behind him off an ugly rebound exactly half a minute later at the 5:53 mark, giving the home team an early two goal lead, before yet another Bruins pass was intercepted from the far wing corner for a snapshot past the stickside shoulder of Robbins. Despite a Bruins surge late in the period, Troy would skate into the first intermission trailing 3-0, with Battle Creek outshooting the Bruins 14-6 after twenty minutes of play.
The second period would start with a bang, as Troy's Lee McClure dropped mitts to defend his linemates, easily taking down a noticeably timid Nick Williams in a round of fisticuffs only two minutes and change in. Battle Creek's Justin Barr would find his way onto the scoresheet for a second time to kick off the middle stanza inside the Revolution Arena, starting another quick pair of goals for the home team within the first half of play, forcing Bruins head coach Rick Szabo to make a goaltending change, with Rob Mattison coming into the game in relief of starter Micah Robbins just prior to the midway mark of the hockey game. With a fresh goalie and a refreshed attitude, the Bruins offensive machinery began to come alive, creating quality chances through the neutral zone, capitalized by a breakout led by Lee McClure, culminating in a centering pass in front of the Revolution net for Chris Moore to bang in for Troy's first goal of the night at 11:31, cutting the lead back to four. Barr would once again prove to be a thorn in the Bruins side, picking up an assist on the Rev's sixth goal of the night off a sloppy three on one shot past the five-hole of Mattison with just over five minutes to go in the frame. Troy would continue to surge in the late half of the period, and thanks to a five-on-three US Army Powerplay, it was Moore who set up McClure for a blistering slapshot from the far point to add the second Bruins goal at 16:23, sending Troy into the second intermission trailing 6-2. Battle Creek would outshoot the Bruins again, this time 13-8 for a two period total of 27-14.
Showing no mercy to open the third period, Battle Creek's Billy Siers would jump Bruins forward Aaron Blades just prior to the puckdrop, resulting in a four minute US Army Powerplay for the Bruins to generate much needed momentum for the final period of regulation. Despite great chances by the Bruins offense throughout the period, Troy would be unable to beat the Rev's red-hot goaltender Matt Kinsella, while the Revolution would light the lamp one final time to seal the 7-2 final score, and the second consecutive loss to the Revolution in as many meetings. The main excitement for Bruins faithful came at the midway mark, thanks to Troy's Dan Morini destroying Battle Creek tough guy Darren Seid in a round of center ice fisticuffs, with Morini landing several quality throws to Seid before taking him to the ice. With the road loss, the Bruins drop to a respectable .500, taking their 2-2-0 record into the Midwest Center in Dyer, Indiana for Sunday's 7pm matchup against the Indiana Blizzard. That contest, the first all-time meeting between the two clubs, will be televised live for free online at www.MiamiCountyPost.com with the "voice of the Bruins" JT Szabo handling the call.
