Troy Bruins News Release

Troy, OH - Before the game began, Troy and Battle Creek were tied for first in the All American Hockey League. Not anymore, after the Bruins defeated Battle Creek 5-3 on a Saturday Night.

Things looked good from the get-go, as the Bruins got out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to Lee McClure and Chris Tasic goals against the Revolution in the first period. Battle Creek would cut the lead in half on a Ky Moje goal past a diving Rob Mattison, but could not cash in on any more chances in the first period. Troy went into the locker rooms for the first intermission with a 3-1 score after a Josh Swenson power play goal.

It was quiet on the scoring front until the later part of the second period, after Battle Creek cut the led to one by Jason Dolgy's seventh goal of the season. The Revs defense would only allow four shots on goal for the Troy Bruins while having fifteen shots, who led 3-2 walking into the second intermission.

In the third, Troy scored their fourth goal of the game by Sean Menton's first of the season and took the led 4-2. That's all the Bruins needed, as the Revolution could only score once more by a goal from Rob Schweyer in the closing moments of the game. Troy then called a brief time-out before scoring an empty net goal from Tasic, his second of the game and fourth on the young season. It looked like game over when Battle Creek stalled in their attacking zone, but there would be fists flinging into the air before both teams could return to the locker rooms.

On the game, Battle Creek out-shot Troy 55-35 but could only cash in three goals. Mattinson recorded 52 saves on the night. His counterpart, Vlado Neumann, allowed five goals throughout the game and recorded 30 saves. The Creek scored a goal for each period, whereas the Bruins scored three in the first and two in the third period.

This marks the first time that Troy has defeated Battle Creek in the season. Before tonight's game, Troy lost both games by scores of 5-2 and 7-2. This was the Revs first trip to Troy. These two squads will face off again Sunday afternoon for a special afternoon matinee inside the historic Hobart Arena.

For the stars of the game, Mattison was awarded third, followed up by a two point performance by McClure, and two assists by Brian Cooke.

With the win, the Bruins improve their record to 6-2-2, and have one more home game hosting the Battle Creek Revolution. The visitors drop to 6-3-0 on the season and 2-3 on the road.

Tickets for Sunday afternoon's game are just $8 and can be purchased in advance by visiting www.TroyBruins.com or at the Hobart Arena box office on game day.
