
Trooper Reynolds blasts Anchors to victory

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats 8-3 Friday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The Anchors improved to 14-15 in the second half and 26-38 on the season.
Thunder Bay got on the board in the first against Sawyer Betts. Jared James led off with a single and stole second base. He advanced to third on a fly out and later scored on a double from Dan Rizzie. An error by the shortstop put runners on the corners for Mikael Mogues who hit a sacrifice fly brining in Rizzie making the score 2-0.
The Blue Anchors did not take long to answer in their half of the first. Steve Sada walked to leadoff the inning and he went to second on Dane Hutcheon's single. After a fly-ball out, Ricky Sanchez singled home Sada for the first run of the night. Trooper Reynolds followed with an RBI base hit scoring Hutcheon and tying the game at two. Matt Duce struck out but Anthony Mrosla came through with an RBI hit scoring Sanchez giving Alexandria a 3-2 lead.
Jarod James led off the third inning with a solo homer to right field, against Ciji Ramos, tying the game at three.
In the bottom of the fifth the Blue Anchors once again grabbed the lead. Sanchez singled with one out and Reynolds blasted a homer to right-centerfield putting them ahead 5-3.
Kyle Richardson led off the sixth with a walk and stole second base. Two outs later, Dane Hutcheon singled him home to put Alexandria ahead 6-3.
The hot-hitting Reynolds continued his tear at the plate in the seventh hitter a solo homer, his second of the game, for a 7-3 lead. Duce followed with a walk and with two outs, Richardson drove him in with a double and the score was 8-3.
Betts pitched the first inning and had to leave due to injury. He gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits. Ramos pitched two innings giving up one run on two hits and a walk with two batters struck out. Zach Muckenhirn pitched a perfect fourth picking up two strikeouts. Jake Matthys (2-5) got the win pitching a scoreless fifth walking one and striking out two. George Faue threw the sixth inning not allowing a base runner and striking out one hitter. Austin Cornish finished the night with four strikeouts and no runs allowed in two innings walking two and allowing one hit. Matt Hopfner threw a scoreless ninth walking one and collecting two strikeouts.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Trooper Reynolds (3B) - Nobody has been hotter in the league than Reynolds. He slugged his fifth and sixth homers of the season and finished 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and 4 RBI.
