Tribe Drops 3-1 Decision To Bats In Home Finale

INDIANAPOLIS -- Shortstop Paul Janish collected four base knocks, while right-handed pitcher Victor Santos helped his own cause with a two-run double in the top of the fourth as Louisville knocked off Indianapolis, 3-1, before a sellout crowd of 14,563 Saturday night at Victory Field.
The Bats improve to 72-70 overall and 35-37 on the road, while the Indians fall to 70-71 on the season and 39-33 at home. The Tribe has been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, but still has a chance to register its third straight winning season.
Santos (5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 SO) improved to 1-1 with the win in his fourth Triple-A start of 2007, while Janish recorded his first four-hit performance since Aug. 24, 2006.
Louisville was held scoreless until the fourth. RF Jeff Bannon reached on a fielder's choice and C Ryan Jorgensen drew a free pass before Santos brought both runners plateward with a double to right center.
The Bats added an insurance run in the ninth when 3B Brent Bolivar dropped a bunt single, moved to third on Janish's base knock to left and raced home on 2B Mark Bellhorn's two-bagger to right.
Indianapolis scored its lone run of the night in the seventh. RF Brad Eldred walked before 3B Neil Walker and SS Don Kelly roped back-to-back singles to load the bases. PH Russ Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Eldred.
Louisville RHP Brad Salmon (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) was credited with his sixth hold of the campaign, while RHP Todd Coffey (2.2 IP, 1 H, 4 SO) earned his first Triple-A save of the year.
LHP Zach Duke (3.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) suffered the loss in his first Major League rehabilitation start with the Indians. Pittsburgh's Opening Day starter has been sidelined since July 1 with left elbow tendonitis.
Indianapolis wraps up its 2007 season with a two-game set at Louisville on Sunday and Monday. Indians RHP John Van Benschoten is scheduled to take the hill in the series opener at 6:15 p.m., while LHP Matt Maloney is expected to get the nod for the Bats.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 5:55 p.m.
1B/RF Steven Pearce and OF Nyjer Morgan received their first Major League promotions after Friday night's contest, while LHP Juan Perez also joined the Pirates active roster.
The 24-year-old Pearce ranked among the Minor League leaders in total bases (3rd - 303), RBI (3rd - 113), extra-base hits (T-3rd - 75), slugging percentage (4th - .622) and roundtrippers (T-6th - 31). He turned in a .320 BA with six long balls and 17 RBI in 34 Triple-A games.
The 27-year-old Morgan hit .305 with 10 RBI in 44 Triple-A tilts. He also tied for seventh in the IL with 26 thefts despite missing more than three months due to a dislocated left thumb.
The 28-year-old Perez posted a 3-2 record and 4.69 ERA in 40 Triple-A relief appearances this season.
