
Trenton Re-Visits the Hawks Nest

Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (2-0) host their New Jersey rivals, the Trenton Freedom (2-1) for the second time in three weeks. The teams battled in a close game in the Steelhawks home opener that saw the Steelhawks come back to win with under a minute to play in the game. The winner of this contest will assume full control of first place in the PIFL's National Conference.
The Steelhawks had a bye week coming off another exciting comeback win in Harrisburg two weeks ago. Offensively, WR Matt Coston and FB Jeff Link had break out performances in their first games this season. Coston had two exciting touchdowns and a total of five catches for 113 yards. Link ran for two touchdowns on 53 yards total. Week Two Vidswap.com Offensive Player of the Week, QB Adam Bednarik has been a consistent leader on the team, throwing for eight touchdowns and 334 yards.
Lehigh Valley's defense has turned in some strong performances so far this season. The defensive front five has been terrorizing opposing offenses, including LB/DL Mike Woodhouse (8 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for a loss) who shined in his last performance. DB Dwayne Hollis (Week Three Vidswap.com Co-Special Teams Player of the Week) has come up with game changing plays in both the Steelhawks games; he's tallied 15.5 tackles and three interceptions so far. The Steelhawks' defense will be contending with a Trenton offense that has averaged 55 points per game.
The Freedom won a big game over the Columbus last weekend, putting up 66 points to beat the Lions. FB Melik Brown (105 yds, 4 tds) rushed for two touchdowns in the win. Both Brown and QB Warren Smith (124 rushing yds) are responsible for the team's league leading rushing offense. Smith has tallied 553 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air as well. LB Jerome Hayes has been a defensive leader, recording 12.5 tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss, and one interception.
Kickoff for this Saturday's game is slated for 7:00 pm. It is "Friends and Family Night," presented by ESSA Bank & Trust. They will be giving away a special drawstring backpack to the first 1,000 fans through the door. Don't forget that at each Steelhawks' home game, every time the Steelhawks score a touchdown, one lucky season ticket holder will be entered into the Boscov's Travel drawing to win a Free Vacation.
All Steelhawks home games are viewable on Service Electric, TV2 Sports. This weekend is the first of four home games in a row for the Steelhawks. They will be back inside Stabler Arena for a 7pm game on May 3rd, taking on the Harrisburg Stampede in the second part of the Keystone Classic; "Family Fun Night," presented by Highmark Blue Shield.
