Alabama Slammers News Release

Despite outshooting the Trax 41 to 29 on the evening, Macon skated away with a 7-2 victory in game one of the WHA2 semifinal series. The Trax and Slammers play game two of the best of three series Thursday night in Alabama, with the Slammers needing a win to stay alive.

After falling behind early in the game, Alabama defensman Stephane Dejardins responded with a goal to tie the game at one in the first period and Slammers rookie Justin Schabes scored again in the second to tie the game at two, before the Trax scored five unanswered goals. Not to be lost in Macon's offensive explosion was a standout goaltending effort from Geoff Faulkner who turned away 39 Alabama shots.

Ryan Rivard and Steve Zoryk each scored two goals for the Trax, and Zoryk also added two assists on the night. Edan Welch had a goal and two assists, while John Gurskis and David Deeves rounded out the scoring for the Trax.

The Slammers return home to Alabama for game two and three (if necessary) of the best of three series. Game two will take place on Thursday night at the Pelham Civic Complex starting at 7:05 pm. A Slammers win would force a third and deciding game on Friday night at the Pelham Civic Complex with the winner advancing to the WHA2 Championship series against either Jacksonville or Maimi. That series is tied at a win each, with their deciding game also Thursday night.

Playoff tickets for game two of the series at the Pelham Civic Complex are on sale now and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster outlet, charge by phone at (205) 715-6000, and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Group tickets are also available by calling the Slammers ticket office at (205) 328-PUCK (7825).
