Danbury Trashers News Release
DANBURY, CT--Four power play goals, a shorthanded goal and an outstanding all-around effort led the Trashers to a 7-1 win over the Quad City Mallards at the Danbury Ice Arena on Monday night to even the series at 3-3 and force game seven on Tuesday night at 7pm to decide the final spot in the UHL Colonial Cup Semifinals.
In a span of two periods, the Trashers matched their power play effort from the entire series as their first four equaled what was totaled in games 1-5. David Hymovitz opened the scoring with his 5th of the series at 9:13, followed by Mike Omicioli's first of the night at the 17:37 mark to take a 2-0 lead after one period.
Jamie Thompson's first of the playoffs was scored at the 15:58 mark of the second, while Mike Omicioli's second was scored on a rebound at the 19:21 mark, giving Danbury a 4-0 lead and ending Quad City goaltender Jason Tapp's night.
Terry Friesen started the 3rd in goal for Quad City but didn't have much luck as David Beauregard, Drew Omicioli (shorthanded) and J.M. Daoust all scored within the first 11:22 of the period. Drew's goal was Danbury's 5th shorthanded goal of the playoffs.
Shawn Collymore finished with three assists, Mike and Drew Omicioli each with three points, while Sergei Durdin also added a pair of assists.
Sly Daigle was exceptional in his return to the net, as the only Mallards goal was scored by Chad Woolard at the 11:33 mark from Joel Pullman and Steve O'Rourke. He finished with 27 saves, while Tapp stopped 25 of 29 and Friesen 16 of 19 in the final period.
