Danbury Trashers News Release
DANBURY, CT - The Danbury Trashers have agreed to terms with Stephen Peat to join the organization as a player, it was announced Thursday afternoon at a press conference by Team President A.J. Galante.
Peat, 24, has spent the last three seasons as a member of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), where he put up 10 points on eight goals in 129 games played. He has also earned 232 penalty minutes during his NHL career.
âIt's going to be great to come here and play with guys who I've skated with over the summer,' Peat said. âThe owner (James Galante) is a great guy. I came down here and he just treated me great. It's going to be great playing for an owner like that. These guys also play my style of hockey.'
The 6-3 218lb British Columbia native was originally selected in the 2nd round (32nd pick) of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 1998 and is described as a physical player with offensive skill.
Peat is expected to fill the role of Brad Wingfield, who was lost for the season when he broke his leg on December 1st in a game against Kalamazoo.
In the event that the NHL's lockout ends, Peat will be allowed to leave and immediately rejoin the Capitals.
The Danbury Trashers return to the Danbury Ice Arena on Friday December 17th at 7:30 and Saturday December 18th against Elmira at 7:00pm. Fans who donate to the First Annual Danbury Trashers Food Drive on Friday will receive a Trashers Christmas Ornament (while supplies last). Saturday's game is the Teddy Bear Toss, where fans can bring a stuffed animal to the rink to throw onto the ice after Danbury's first goal.
