Danbury Trashers News Release

DANBURY, CT--For the second time in the series the Danbury Trashers overcame a three-goal deficit to provide a magical comeback win. Trailing Quad City 3-0 until the 16:01 mark of the second period, the Trashers unleased an unanswered six goal attack and defeated the Mallards 6-4 in game seven of the Colonial Cup opening round playoff to take the series in the seventh and deciding game.

Unlike their 7-1 defeat on Monday, the Mallards started out strong and scored on their second shot of the game as Jami Yoder fired a point shot past Sly Daigle to take a 1-0 lead at the 2:35 mark. Matt Radoslovich followed with a power play goal at 11:40, then Yoder scored on a breakaway at the 15:50 mark as the Mallards led 3-0 after one period despite being outshot 17-8.

The Trashers kept firing shots on Jason Tapp, but didn't score until David Hymovitz fired a rebound into the net at the 16:01 mark of the second period. J.M. Daoust followed just 33 seconds later with the first of two goals as the Trashers trailed 3-2 heading into the final period.

David-Alexandre Beauregard tied the score for the Trashers at the 3:51 mark with his sixth goal of the series, and then scored the go-ahead goal at the 4:58 mark. The go-ahead goal was a power play goal with the Trashers on a 5-on-3 advantage.

Drew Omicioli then added his 6th of the series at the 9:05 mark from Shawn Collymore and Mike Omicioli, while Daoust scored again at the 9:35 mark from Mario Larocque and Jeff Daw. Both were power play goals as the Trashers finished 4-10 with the man advantage and 8-19 on the power play during the last two games.

Tom Clayton finally broke the streak for the Mallards as he scored at the 19:48 mark, but the game was decided by that point. Sly Daigle stopped 16 of 20 shots in his second straight win, while Tapp saved 42 of 48.

Danbury's second round opponent is the Muskegon Fury, who will host the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday night at the L.C. Walker Arena starting at 7:30pm. The Trashers will host games 3-5 of the series, with game three on Wednesday May 10th starting at 7:00pm, Friday May 12th and Saturday May 13th at 7:30pm. Games six and seven are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday 15th and 16th in Muskegon if necessary.
