Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas - The 2003-04 Laredo Bucks training camp is just about ready to get underway. The Bucks will report as a team this Saturday, October 4th, to the Laredo Entertainment Center. The first day of on-ice workouts will be on Monday, October 6th.
With the Bucks camp just about ready to begin it has created a hectic schedule with preparations in full swing. Last week Bucks Head Coach Terry Ruskowski was in San Antonio scouting the AHL camp of the Rampage and their parent club the Florida Panthers of the NHL.
"It was a very competitive camp," said Ruskowski. "There were a lot of fine young players involved."
The Bucks have a working agreement with the Panthers thru San Antonio. Last year Michel Periard, Eric Schneider, Andy Lundbohm, Lance Leslie and Dave Gove all spent time with the Bucks and the Rampage. Ruskowski was watching this year's Rampage camp looking for more quality players to fill out the Bucks roster.
"I think we'll get a couple of tough guys and a couple of skill kids from the Rampage," said Ruskowski. "Of course only time will tell who they send to us."
Coming off a tremendous debut season the Bucks enter their second training camp with high expectations.
"We have a lot of good young players coming to our camp," Ruskowski said. "We are still looking at a couple of other players as well. These young kids know they have to come in and impress us in order to make the team. There are spots open on our roster."
Currently the Bucks have 20 players listed on their training camp roster. The Bucks will have just three days of official on-ice workouts before playing an exhibition game on October 9th in Corpus Christi.
Several members of the Bucks will have informal skates at the LEC at 10 a.m. through the rest of the week.
In related news the San Antonio Rampage, primary affiliate of the Florida Panthers, announced late Monday evening that they have assigned Brent Cullaton and James Hiebert to the Laredo Bucks.
