Trail Blazers Edge Diamond Dawgs, Split Home-And-Home Series With Mohawk Valley

June 22, 2018 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NY On Thursday night, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and the Adirondack Trail Blazers were locked in a slugfest, scoring 34 runs on 31 hits as Mohawk Valley edged the Trail Blazers, 19-15. The next night at Veteran's Memorial Park, the opposite was true: runs and hits came at a premium, but the outcome was no less exciting.

On Friday, both teams combined for seven runs and only 14 hits, but it came right down to the ninth inning again. This time, the Trail Blazers picked up the victory, 4-3 over Mohawk Valley.

Mark McKenna (Grand Island, NY/Canisius) kicked off the scoring for the Diamond Dawgs in the bottom of the third, hitting a blooper to left field for a 2-RBI single. That hit would score Joe Tevlin (Toronto, Ontario/Niagara) and Tyler Bruno (Breinigsville, PA/Villanova).

Todd Henry (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Delaware State) cut the Mohawk Valley lead in half in the fifth with a ground rule double that would score Danny Glendon (Westherfield, CT/Sacred Heart). Jon Iadevaia (Commack, NY/Adelphi) gave Adirondack the lead on a rocket to right field that would give him a triple and score Henry and Tim Carroll (Ballston Lake, NY/Siena).

Iadevaia extended the Adirondack lead in the ninth, knocking another single to right field to score Henry once again. However, John LaRocca (Plainview, NY/Monmouth) came on to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth, and made the game just that much more exciting, getting an RBI single to score Mike Young (Chester, NJ/UMass Lowell). Unfortunately for Mohawk Valley, reliever Connor Stapleton (Staten Island, NY/Concordia) shut it down for Adirondack, getting two straight strikeouts to put the game away.

Jack Wallace (Winthrop, MA/Franklin Pierce) picked up the win for Adirondack, while Tim Geissel (Scotch Plains, NY/St. John Fisher) was saddled with the loss for Mohawk Valley (10-7). Stapleton got the save for the Trail Blazers (5-13).

The Diamond Dawgs will start a two-game road trip beginning Saturday. They'll start it by heading to Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds for the second time this week to face the Watertown Rapids, then head to East Field on Sunday to face the Glens Falls Dragons. Mohawk Valley will be back at Veteran's Memorial Park on Tuesday after a day off to face the Utica Blue Sox. The Trail Blazers will continue their three-game road trip on Saturday, heading west to Colburn Park to face the Newark Pilots before a trip (after an off day on Sunday) to Murnane Field for a game with the Blue Sox. Adirondack will return to the Robert Smith Sports Complex on Tuesday to start a three-game home stand with a game against the Geneva Red Wings.
