Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, has acquired rookie defenseman Anthony Aiello (EYE-el-oh) from the Florida Everblades in exchange for future considerations, Thunder head coach Matt Thomas announced today.

Aiello, 23, is expected to make his Thunder debut this Friday at Stockton Arena against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:30 p.m. (StocktonThunder.com).

"Anthony comes from a very good college hockey program at Boston College," said Thomas. "He's a good, two way defenseman, makes a good first pass, has offensive upside, and has potential to take his game to the next level as an everyday professional. We've had to address the issue of adding left-shot defenseman with our numbers down due to AHL call-ups, and we're confident Anthony will help fill that need."

The first-year defenseman has suited up in three games for Florida this season, totaling four penalty minutes.

Registering at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, he was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round (129th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and previously skated in 132 career games through four years (2005-09) with Boston College (NCAA), scoring 35 points (5g-30a) from the blueline while totaling 142 penalty minutes.

Aiello, a native of Braintree, Mass., was a part of Boston College's national championship squad in 2008 when he scored a career-high 13 points (3g-10a) from blueline in 43 games as a 2007-08 junior. During his tenure, he helped guide the Eagles to three straight appearances (2006-08) in the NCAA Frozen Four.
