Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Alaska Aces have aquired the ECHL rights for the nation's leading scorer from a year ago, Bryan Leitch, from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for center Chris Morehouse.
The 25-year-old Leitch scored twice and assisted on five other goals in his 16 games for the 2008 Kelly Cup champions. He had an assist in his first pro game for the Cyclones Oct. 23 at Wheeling and scored the game-winning goal at Toledo Nov. 7. The 6-3, 190-pound Leitch led all NCAA Division I players with 59 points and 47 assists while earning second team all-ECAC honors in 2008-09. He finished his career with a school record-tying 169 points (53g-116a) in 167 games for the Bobcats, including a 45-point campaign as a freshman (14g-31a) that landed him a spot on the ECHL All-Rookie team. Leitch's 116 assists rank second all-time in school history, and his 47 assists and 59 points are single-season highs for the Bobcats since they entered Division I in 2005-06.
Morehouse appeared in 11 games for Alaska, scoring shorthanded in his first pro contest, a 2-1 win over Victoria October 16. He also racked up 45 minutes in penalties.
The Aces (10-8-2) face West Division-leading Idaho, owners of the league's best record at 16-3-1, this week at Qwest Arena in Boise. The teams meet Thursday and Friday night, broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with coverage getting underway at 4:45 p,m. AT. The Steelheads took five of six points at Sullivan Arena (the Aces got three) four weeks ago in a three-game series.
