Daytona Tortugas News Release

PALM BEACH, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals used a seven-run second inning to beat Daytona, 11-1, in a rain shortened game Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The game was called one batter into the bottom of the fifth inning, moving Palm Beach to 4-0 at home against Daytona this year.

Daytona threatened in the top of the first inning, getting two aboard against RHP Jake Walsh, before Michael Beltre popped out to second. Daytona has gone 2-for-24 with runners in scoring position over their last 17 innings, leaving 19 on base.

Palm Beach wouldn't waste their opportunity in the home half, when Randy Ventura dropped the first ball put in play in left field. That placed Chase Pinder at second and Dylan Carlson would drive him in two batters later with a fly ball to right field. Andy Young would double the lead later in the frame with a line drive homer into the right field corner.

The Cardinals would put the game out of reach an inning later, sending 12 men to the plate and scoring seven times against RHP Tejay Antone. The righty walked four in the frame, before giving way to LHP Juan Martinez. The only out through the first 10 ten batters was a sacrifice fly.

Palm Beach added two more runs in the fourth on a Martinez wild pitch and a Jose Godoy infield single.

Daytona scored their lone run in the top of the fourth when Tyler Stephenson doubled to open the frame and later scored on a Belter ground out.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, the umpires called for the tarp and the game was never able to resume.

Antone (1-2) endured the worst start of his career, going a career-low 1 1/3 innings, while surrendering nine runs on five hits. Walsh (4-1) earned the complete game victory, tossing five innings and allowing one run and three hits.

The series concludes Thursday with a 6:30 PM first pitch. Coverage begins at 6:15 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

NOTES: Taylor Trammell went 0-for-2, ending his 16 game hitting streak... Daytona is 16-21 against the South this year and has lost eight of their last nine games at Roger Dean Stadium... Daytona had a 2.31 ERA in their previous 13 games... Bruce Yari extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a first inning walk... Tyler Stephenson had two of Daytona's three hits, a pair of doubles. It was the third time this season that Stephenson had two doubles in a game.
