Clearwater Threshers News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - Adam Haseley launched his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning on Wednesday night, but the Clearwater Threshers were limited to just that lone run in a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Tarpons on Independence Day at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The game got underway after an hour and 35 minute delay, and the Tarpons (7-6) (42-41) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first.

With two outs and a runner at first, Diego Castillo took off with the pitch from Bailey Falter (5-4), and Isiah Gilliam singled to right. The ball was dropped in right for an error on Jose Pujols, allowing Castillo to score.

Tampa tacked on a second run in the fourth. With a runner at second and two down following back-to-back strikeouts, David Metzgar singled through the right side to score Dom Thompson-Williams and make it 2-0.

Nick Green (6-3) held Clearwater scoreless until the sixth, when Haseley got the Threshers on the board.

With a full count, Haseley raked a payoff pitch over the wall in right for his fourth long ball of the season, cutting the deficit down to one.

Blake Quinn retired the first seven he faced in relief, before Ricky Surum chopped a single up the middle with one out in the seventh.

Surum stole second, and with two down Castillo floated a single to right after an eight-pitch battle, scoring Surum to make it 3-1. After Kyle Dohy entered in relief, Brandon Wagner lifted an opposite-field, two-run homer to left to extend Tampa's lead to 5-1.

The Threshers (9-4) (41-40) and Tarpons face off in the finale of the two-game set on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Mauricio Llovera takes the hill opposed by Garrett Whitlock, and the game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:15 p.m.
