Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - Rio Grande Valley FC (6-7-9) is set to face Eastern conference side Louisville City FC (10-7-6) on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. CST. This will be the second meeting between the sides historically, Louisville claimed the 1-0 victory in 2022 at H-E-B Park to open the series. This is also the first ever meeting at Lynn Stadium between the sides, as a significant playoff race continues for Rio Grande Valley.
RGV FC were not in rhythm for most of their match against Las Vegas and the players were the first to admit their faults in defensive pressure and execution up front. The offensive unit outshot the Lights FC but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities, resorting to a defensive player scoring his first goal of the season for the club, Erik Pimentel.
Wilmer Cabrera discussed with league broadcaster, Mike Watts, in a midweek meeting that he was very unpleased with the performance of his team because he knows that there is much more potential to them if they are completely focused. It has been evident in the past weeks that the Toros can hang with anyone in the league and will "surprise" sides if they are not in top shape against them. It seems to be that Rio Grande historically makes things complicated for themselves in terms of playoff contention but there is one thing certain, never count them out.
This Saturday will be a very good test for the Texas side to measure up against a top Eastern conference opponent while also keeping their focus on a quick turnaround coming up against Copa Tejas and derby rival, San Antonio FC who are red hot lately. If Cabrera's side can play a collective match on the pitch and keep control of the match, there could be some fireworks in favor of the road side which would be very positive as the race tightens up in the West.
