Toros Sweep Scorpions with 14-9 Victory

Yuma, AZ - The Tucson Toros defeated the Yuma Scorpions 14-9 Monday night at Ray Kroc Park. The win sealed the 3-game sweep of the Scorpions and extended Tucson's winning streak to six straight games.

Tucson muscled up for 17 hits against the Scorpions pitchers, with every starting position player in the lineup recording at least 1 hit. Shortstop Ryan Priddy continued to swing a white hot bat with 4 hits and 3 runs scored. Priddy now has a multi-hit game in 9 of his last 10 contests, hitting .530 over that span (26-for-49) to raise his season batting average to .326.

The Toros jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning and a half of play, but the Scorpions rallied for 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd that included a grand slam by LF Bubba Garcia to give Yuma the 6-3 lead.

Tucson would score the next 8 runs of the game however, including a 6 run 8 th featuring a 2-run triple by 3B Wally Backman Jr. and a 3-run home run by CF Josh Womack. Womack's bomb was his sixth of the season to give the Toros a commanding 14-6 lead.

Yuma rallied in the bottom of the 9th, but were only able to muster up 3 runs as Tucson closed out the 14-9 win as well as the sweep. The win completed the Toros third series sweep of the year, and their second series sweep of Yuma with the last occurring from June 29th through July 1st at Hi Corbett Field.

The Toros will have two days off beginning their final homestand of the season on Thirsty Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The 9-game stand will feature series against the Edmonton Capitals, St. George Roadrunners and Yuma Scorpions to complete the regular season.
