Tucson Toros News Release

Yuma, AZ-The Tucson Toros came up a run short in their attempt to stretch their winning streak to three straight, falling 5-4 Tuesday night against the Yuma Scorpions. Recent acquisition Pete Hartmann made his third quality start in three attempts, but a trio of errors behind him led to two unearned that proved to be the difference in the game.

Hartmann allowed just three runs in seven innings of work, scattering ten hits without walking a batter. After a Toros run in the top of the first inning, the southpaw hurt his own cause in the bottom of the frame when both he and Shortstop Ryan Priddy committed errors leading to an unearned run. The Scorpions also had a 3-run home run earlier in the inning to jump out to an early lead.

Yuma plated another unearned tally in the second inning after a miscue by First Baseman Dustin Yount. Tucson scored once in the seventh and twice in the eighth inning but failed to get a runner on in the ninth.

The Toros scored all four of their home runs via the long ball, with solo shots by Junior Spivey and Andre Marshall and a 2-run blast by Yount.

Even with the loss the Toros remained in first place in the GBL Southern Division over division rival Orange County, staying ahead of the Flyers in winning percentage .609 to .556. The Toros will look to expand that lead Wednesday in Yuma with game two of the three game series scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. Tucson time.
