Austin, TX - The Austin Toros will host their annual Black Heritage Night game presented by Pizza Hut on February 27 at 7:30 p.m. against the Bakersfield Jam at the Austin Convention Center.
This year the Toros will honor Villager sports reporter, George E. Hardin. The Villager is a free community service weekly publication that is distributed each Friday throughout East Austin. Hardin has covered the Toros since the 2005 inaugural season.
"We're excited to promote black history month and honor Mr. Hardin," said Austin Toros COO Peter Lubell. "We feel it's important to celebrate the diversity of Austin and the surrounding communities."
Miss Black Texas USA 2010, Zakiya Larry, will be in attendance. She will present the game ball courtesy of Urban Life and Style (.com), a community partner for the night. A graduate of Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism, Larry currently serves as the communications director for the March of Dimes in Austin.
Local entertainer Judy Arnold and Brett Lee, a poet and musician based out of Austin, will also be in attendance and performing. Halftime entertainment will be provided by Nu Era Crew, a local dance group.
The Austin Toros will host the Nothin but Net Black History Round Robin Sunday at noon before they take on the Springfield Armor. Tip-off for the Toros game on Sunday is 5:00 p.m.
Tickets are available for both games by calling the Toros office at (512) 236-8333 or visiting austintoros.com.
