Toros crush Arensal for third straight win

AUSTIN, TX - Marcus Williams scored 23 points, Justin Bowen added 26 and the Austin Toros crushed the Anaheim Arsenal 125-103 on Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center. The Toros set a new franchise record of 16 home wins in a season with the victory over the Arsenal.

The Toros used a 16-4 run in the first quarter to build a 21-point lead on the Arsenal that was capped by a put-back shot by Justin Bowen. Ian Mahinmi, who is on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, scored 16 points in the first quarter on 7-of-7 shooting.

Mahinmi would leave the game with 7:13 remaining the second quarter after being injured following being fouled on a dunk attempt. He did not return to the game.

Austin took a 72-43 advantage into the locker room at halftime. 72 points in the first half set a franchise record for most points scored in the first half, breaking the previous record of 64 on 3/30/07 vs. the Albuquerque Thunderbirds.

The Toros had six players scoring in double figures including 20 points from DerMarr Johnson, Cheyne Gadson added 18 and Serge Angounou chipped in 10.

Ivan Johnson led the Arsenal in scoring with 21 points and Marcus Campbell scored 20 and grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Toros begin a six game road trip and travel to Idaho to play the Stampede and then to Albuquerque to face the Thunderbirds in four straight games. Anaheim returns home to take on the Iowa Energy on next Wednesday.
