Wenatchee Wild News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Down 2-0, the Texas Tornado scored three unanswered power-play goals Saturday night to earn a hard-fought victory over the Wenatchee Wild, 3-2. The win was Texas' 10th straight while Wenatchee suffered its second straight loss.

After a scoreless first period, Wenatchee came out strong in the second frame and claimed a 1-0 lead a little over three minutes into the period when Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) slid the puck to his right to Tyler Hope (McKinney, Texas), who buried it into a wide-open net for his third goal of the season. Kyle Huson (Parker, Colo.) was credited with the second assist.

While shorthanded, the Wild went up by a pair of goals 67 seconds prior to the midpoint of the second period when Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, BC) and company walked in on Texas netminder Jimmy Kruger 2-on-0. Schmidbauer kept the puck and beat Kruger for his third goal of the season. It was the Wild's league-leading sixth shorthanded goal of the season.

Wenatchee could not hold its 2-goal lead. Texas cut the lead in half with just under four minutes remaining before the second intermission when Jackson Leef scored a power-play goal on his backhand. Then, early in the third period, the Wild was faced with its third 2-man disadvantage of the game, and this time the Tornado capitalized. Howard tied the contest, 2-2, with his power-play marker at the 3:14 mark. Thirty-one seconds later, Leef notched his second power-play goal of the game, which would count as the game-winner.

Kruger made 31 saves on 33 shots to improve to 8-0 on the season. Jaeger, who made 31 saves on 34 shots, fell to 8-3 on the season. Texas scored three power-play goals on 10 chances while Wenatchee went 0-for-7 on the man-advantage.

Leef scored two goals for the Tornado while his teammate, Jack Prince, recorded two assists.

The Wild (10-5) will host a 3-game home series against the Dawson Creek Rage next week (Nov. 4-6). The first game of the series will begin at 6:35 p.m. while the final two games of the series are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. starts.
